Starband Zaffeh This lively group performs a traditional Arab wedding dance, used to lead the bride and groom into the reception. Their dance exhibits an exciting energy that heralds a new beginning.
Fashions of the Arab World An exotic fashion show displaying traditional and contemporary garments from around the Arab World with a variety of luxurious fabrics, embroidery and styles.

Arabic Dance

Katya performs a variety of energetic belly dances ranging from classical to folkloric.

Safaafir Iraqi maqam is the classical modal music of Iraq, characterized by improvising within a collection of musical traditions. Safaafir performs the maqam with its traditional instrumentation of santour (hammered dulcimer), jowza (spike fiddle) and dumbek (goblet drum).
Jasmin Jahal Dance Troupe An exciting Chicago-based dance troupe performs a wonderful array of dances ranging from Khaleeji (Arabian Gulf) to Egyptian baladi.

Chicago Public Schools Arabic World Language Program

Students in the Chicago Public Schools Arabic World Language Program from Durkin Park and Volta Elementary schools and Lindblom Math & Science Academy High School play traditional musical instruments, sing Arabic songs, and perform a variety of dances and debkehs.

Chabab Al Andalous Direct from Morocco! A nine-piece orchestra playing classical Maghrebi music invoking the Andalusian Spanish history of the Arab World. Sponsored by Chicago Arabesque and the US Embassy in Rabat, Morocco. Co-hosted by Chicago’s Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) and Old Town School of Folk Music.

Debkeh-off Competition

Amateur dance troupes from Chicago showcase their debkeh talent while competing for a grand prize of $500.

Activity Booths
